It all started in 1976 when Lowell and Marla Christy bought a little

drive-in restaurant in Windsor, Missouri. They purchased it from a lady

that actually sold these tenderloins only much smaller. The restaurant

had so much lake traffic on Friday and Sunday nights, people coming

and going from Kansas City to the Ozarks.

Lowell and Marla lived in Kansas City, Kansas. Their parents ran the

business for them during the week, being that they had full time jobs in

the city. On the weekends, they would take their three children and

drive down to run the business. People always asked why don’t you

buy a place in KC and bring the tenderloins here?

In 1983 the Christy’s neighbor was selling their little drive-in restaurant

in Turner (KCK) and approached them about buying it. This was their

opportunity to bring their tenderloins to Kansas City.

39 years later Christy’s Tasty Queen is still there. The tenderloins are

much larger, so big that they can’t even find a bun big enough to fit it,

so the tenderloin hangs out all the way around the bun!

Lowell and Marla couldn’t have run the business this long without the

dedicated employees they have. Some have been with them for over

30 years and of course their repeat customers.

Their customers have come from all over the United States to have one

of their famous tenderloins. People bring their coolers and take the

tenderloins home with them and fry them themselves. They have

shipped these tenderloins all over the United States, even to Hawaii. It

has gotten so expensive to ship overnight that they no longer do it.

They were great Christmas presents!

Tenderloins are always available but they are on special on Mondays

with French fries. They can also be purchased as a basket which

includes fries and onion rings.

Christy’s Tasty Queen has a huge menu with all kinds of delicious treats,

but they are also known for their yummy soft serve ice cream. Their

malts and shakes come in many flavors but a few of the most popular

would include black raspberry, peanut butter, coffee, butterscotch and

strawberry.
